Completed in 48 hours, I was thrown headfirst, more or less without direction, and composed a score for a film in an exercise of trust and determination.

Defective Detectives (2025)

Score Composer

A two day long sprint.

Brought on as a score composer at the last minute, I had under two days to create a soundtrack for the comedy short. Calling for unfamiliar styles (e.g. buddy cop cliche funk), the nature of the project meant I was given creative license to create pieces of music that I felt would fit the short film. This was a first for me, as I composed and produced without advanced knowledge of the film’s characters, and final story as production would take place concurrently. The short film was screened at the 2025 48 Hour Film Challenge screening in Melbourne, and a forthcoming extended cut is in production.

Saif Mosafeer, Director of ‘Defective Detectives’

“Considering the tight schedule, Ryan was very quick when it came to developing ideas. The group and I gave notes to him which hinted at the idea of what was happening within a scene, but the rest was left for Ryan to decide how the music would play out. He composed them very well and in a professional manner, quickly jumping onto any piece that required any certain emotion.”
